Based on recent survey and store data, there are over 30,000 individual packages, or ''colli'', that must be delivered to various island around the city each day. Of these, approximately 25,000 are dry goods, and 5,000 require refrigeration. The number of deliveries required by an island depends on several variables. First is the number of stores on that island. Second, is the type of store, which determines the average number of ''colli'' required. For instance, island A could have a larger number of stores than island B, but the type of stores on island B require more deliveries, so island B as a whole requires more deliveries. In general, ''colli'' demand for islands ranges between 200 and 300. In some cases however, a single island might need as much as 3000 ''colli'' in a day.

Deliveries in Venice, as with every other part of the economy, rely on boats. Most goods are shipped to the city in trucks and brought to a warehouse on the West part of the city. Once there, the goods transition from trucks to one of two kinds of boats. Some boats, called conto proprio are owned by the business that they deliver to. For example, the McDonald’s locations in Venice have their own delivery boat, which delivers to each of the stores. The other kind of delivery boat is conto terzi. These boats are owned by third parties, and deliver goods to multiple types of stores. In both cases, the boats act as an extension of the trucking system, performing the last leg of the delivery; from the warehouse to each individual store.
