However since the introduction of the first ''[[Vaporetto]]'' the number of Gondola's used for daily transport has decreased dramatically. Now private passenger boats, ''[[Vaporetto]]'' and small water taxis known as ''[[Motoscafi]]'' populate the [[Canals]] while gondola's are used mostly as a tourist attraction. ''[[Vaporetto]]'' travel the [[Grand Canal]] as well as the outskirts of Venice and surrounding islands in the lagoon while private boats, ''[[Motoscafi]]'' and gondolas travel the smaller more constricting [[Canals]]. Other service boats such as garbage boats, ambulance's, and freight barges can be seen traveling along the [[Canals]] of Venice.

==Bridges==
Venetian [[Bridges]] are utilized for mainly two different types of transportation: pedestrian and cargo. Pedestrian traffic is the most commonly used and the main reason that bridges were created in the city.Cargo transportation over bridges has developed into an enormously important aspect of Venetian lifestyle since there are no cars in the city.
