Overview of Bridge
The Ponte de San Bonaventura was built primarily using Mattoni e Pietra d'Istria. It crosses the Rio de S. Alvise bridging a gap which is 12.02 meters. The bridge is not a crooked bridge. On the northern side of the bridge is the sestiere of Cannaregio and on the southern side is also Cannaregio .There are 2 ramps. On the north side there are 5 steps, on the south side there are 15 steps. This results in a total of 20 steps. The height of a typical step is 14 meters, the thickness of a step is about 51 centimeters, and the width of a step is about 3.69 meters.The steps are paved with Asfalto. The bridge is not handicapped accessible and it does not have an additional railing. The summit is 4.04 meters wide and 3.66 meters in length for a total area of about 14.79 meters. The summit is paved with Asfalto. Also, this bridge has 1 arch. The bridge's Piena railing is made of Mattoni e Pietra d'Istria and is about 27.00 meters wide is about 0.84 meters tall. Finally, the bridge protrudes 0.35 meters to the North and 0.7 meters to the South.
History
The following is any history we have regarding the bridge's origins:
. The PP. Reformed Franciscans who lived in S. Francesco del Deserto, abandoned island pell'insalubrit� Dell'Aere, first passed in the abbey of St. Cyprian of Murano, and afterwards to St. Nicol� in the room which was later occupied by \Terese,\ and finally in 1620 they founded a new convent on this site and new church, consecrated three years later under the title of S. Bonaventure. In 1810 ambidue buildings were reduced to profane uses. In 1859, however, were bought by the Countess Paolina Giustiniani Recanati, widow Malipiero, who in 1875 v'introdusse some of the Discalced Carmelites. Havva memory on Easter day of the year 1641 Alvise Paruta kidnapped Lucia Gerardi, who, together with his father, he left the church of S. Bonaventure. The kidnapper then, with decision of 3 April of that year was banned, but in 1646 he obtained full pardon.
