What is Venipedia?

Venipedia is a wiki-based website dedicated to providing unique information and data about the city of Venice, Italy. Although there are already several sources on the internet about Venice, including both the English and Italian Wikipedia websites as well as various Italian organizations, there are some issues associated with such sources. Wikipedia is a general knowledge encyclopedia that does not give very detailed information and provides almost no data about Venice. The Italian Wikipedia and Italian organizations provide more data, yet both types of resources are largely unavailable to the English speaking audience because these resources are written in Italian. Venipedia aims to fill the gap between these available resources by providing data-driven information to English speakers.

Featured Article: Fountain

This page contains information about a typical Venetian fountain.

A fountain, fontana, is a public drinking water system in Venice. It serves potable water to the public and locates all over the city. The majority of fountains run continuously whereas only a few of them have a push button to operate. Among the 142 fountains in Venice, only half of them are functional. The Venetian Fountain serves not only a practical purpose, but also as a unique aspect of Venetian vernacular art. see Public art preservation
