History
Save Venice Inc. was initially established as the Venice Committee of the International Fund for Monuments by Colonel James Gray after the flood in 1966. However, in 1971, a new American organization was launched by John McAndrew, Betty Barlett McAndrew and Sydney J. Freedberd, Save Venice inc. was established to fund projects in Venice to restore Venetian monuments, buildings and works of art [1].
Mission
Save Venice Inc. has raised over 20 million dollars to help restore more than 400 works of art and architecture in Venice [2]. At any given time, the organization will have multiple restoration projects running. With the support from individuals, foundations, and chapters in Boston and California, Save Venice Inc. has not only become a worldwide organization but its success has made it one of the largest and most active committee in helping preserve the cultural patrimony of Venice.

Activities
Each year, the board of Save Venice chooses projects to sponsor based on artistic merit and urgency of need. The Superintendents for the Artistic and Historic Heritage of Venice and for the Architectural Heritage of Venice, along with church leaders, museum curators, interested citizens, and friends of Save Venice all help in suggesting works of art and buildings that are in need of restoration. Current restoration projects can be seen by location or through their website.
Events
Save Venice hosts a four-day Gala in Venice every other year. The event celebrates the opportunity to experience the art, architecture, and traditions of Venice, and to also see first hand the restoration work of Save Venice. More information on the next gala can be found here.
Membership
Save Venice offers multiple levels of membership. From student to council of ten, they are always looking to raise funds and awareness about Venice. Click here to learn more about becoming a member.
