Minich Clocks

The Minich Clocks are a special set of clocks in the city of Venice. They get their name from a man named Angelo Minich who donated them to the city. There are currently 21 Minich Clocks spread around Venice, Giudecca, and Murano.

History

In Venice there are 21 clocks donated to the city by Angelo Minich. Angelo Minich was a surgeon born in Venice. Upon his passing in 1893, Minich left the city money to build Ponte Minich as well as to fabricate a set of clocks. These clocks were created in hopes of making Venice a more punctual city.[1] A common name for these clocks are simply the Minich Clocks.

Types

There exist two types of Minich Clocks, one faced and two faced. Both sets of clocks measure time by the minute. A majority of the two faced clocks are placed at street corners while a majority of one faced clocks are placed on the fronts of buildings.

Decorations

Both types of Minich Clocks have a distinct design. The one-faced clocks have a very detailed design with the Venetian Lion on top and an Angel on the bottom, both in gold. The two-face clocks do not have the figures, but they do have the same green case and matching faces with Roman numerals.
