This article contains information about a typical Island in the Venetian Lagoon.

An Island is defined as: "Any piece of land, surrounded by water, which contains human artifacts."

An island in the Venetian Lagoon can be categorized as one of three types, based on location and utility:

Inner City Islands - These Islands make up the City of Venice itself
Major Lagoon Islands - While not a part of the City of Venice, these islands are inhabited and used by many Venetians
Minor Lagoon Islands - These are smaller islands which are not part of the City of Venice. They may have been used in the past, but today are largely abandoned or unused.
