Their function is purely informational, but they now add to the artistic atmosphere of Venice too.

Statistics
- The oldest inscription is located in San Marco and dates from 1358 AD.
- The most recent inscription is located in San Polo and dates from 2013 AD.
- The inscription in the most need of restoration is located in Santa Croce and dates from 1671 AD.
