The Alilaguna is a public transportation company in Venice, Italy that focuses on providing efficient boat transportation throughout the City. The company consists of boats as their means of transportation, and its lines travel from the Marco Polo International Airport throughout Venice. The Alilaguna is committed not only to managing local public transport services, but also to innovating and diversifying them in order to respond to future mobility needs in the Venice area.
History
The Alilaguna was originally founded in 1999 by a couple smaller transportation services and it was the first company to connect the airport to the city of Venice by boat. The first line that was created was Linea Rossa, which connected the Marco Polo airport to Murano and Lido. Later on, Zattere was added to Linea Rossa and Linea Blu was also created. Now the company has 5 lines that run throughout the lagoon, connecting surrounding areas all to the Venice’s centre.[1]
Water Transport: Different Lines
For boat transportation throughout Venice, the Alilaguna provides 5 routes in the Venice navigation network.
Linea Rossa
Linea Rossa is a seasonal line from April to October, that travels from the Marco Polo Airport to the Lido, stopping at Murano Museo and Certosa along the way.
Linea Blu
Linea Blu is one of the more popular Alilaguna lines, simply because it stops at many of the popular sites in Venice. It begins at the cruise ship terminal and ends at the Marco Polo Airport, stopping at Zattere, San Marco, Lido, and Murano among others along the way.
Linea Arancio
Linea Arancio is a line that also travels to the airport, but also travels down the Grand Canal, stopping at major iconic Venice sites, such as San Marco and Rialto.
Linea Gialla
Linea Gialla is another seasonal line that runs from July to August, and it travels from Fondamente Nuove to Murano, then Punta Sabbioni and then ends at Treporti.
Linea Verde
Linea Verde is a different type of line than the others and it is an excursionist line rather than a public transportation line. Tourists can pay a special price to take a tour on the Linea Verde for three hours, and the route begins at San Marco Giardinetti and travels to Murano, Burano, and Torcello. The boat stops at all three islands so the tourists can experience the different locations at their leisure.
