Utilities

Public utilities in Venice consist of electricity, public lighting, gas, water, wireless cellular service, cable lines and video surveillance. Due to Venice’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, unsightly utility lines or pipes cannot mar the appearance of the city. For this reason, all utilities in the city travel under the Pavement and cross between the various islands by traveling inside or under Bridges. Each utility is accessible through individual pavement stones that are visible on almost every Street in the city.
Electricity

The Electrical Network in the city of Venice is provided by ENEL[1], a multinational group based in Italy. [2]
Electrical lines in the city are accessible through pavement stones in the Pavement marked "EN".
Public Lighting

There are 52,000 spot lights and 3,800 traffic lights interspersed throughout the old town, the islands and the mainland of Venice. [3]
The public lighting grid pavement stones are marked by "PL" and sometimes "PPL".
Gas

Gas service in Venice is a natural gas, provided by ITALGAS.[4] ITALGAS is the most important natural gas provider in the entirety of Italy and annually distributes 7.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to roughly 6 million customers.[5]
Gas lines are found under pavement stones marked "G".
Water
Water service in Venice is necessary for both public and private use. Water lines in Venice provide water both for the use of the Venice Fire Department and for the private use of citizens for both consumption and general use.[6]
Cable, Internet & Phone

Mobile broadband and cellular service within Venice are provided by TELECOM Italia and Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA(also known as Wind Italy),[7][8] while high speed internet and cable television service are provided exclusively by TELECOM Italia.[9]
The cable grid provides fast internet connection to large companies and government buildings in Venice. These grids are accessible through pavement stones marked "PGC"
