There are 1650 docks scattered throughout Venice and are an essential component of the city. Since boats are the most efficient way to transport cargo, passengers, or to just get around the city; having an abundance of docks available is critical for the city.
Presence of Dock Types
In Venice, Rive (ADD LINK) are the most common dock, representing 80% of all docks in the city. Fondamente (ADD LINK) have some presence in Venice (18% of all docks) but are not as prevalent as Rive (ADD LINK). There are so few Pontili (ADD LINK) (2% of all docks) in Venice because of the limitations of many of the Canals.
