Irregular pavement near the Accademia

This irregular pavement layout known in Italian as, Opera Incerta, is made up of recycled Masegno or other irregular shaped stones. Mortar is used to fill the gaps (known in Italian as fuga) between the stones. Opera incerta takes up a very small percentage of the pavement in Venice, examples can be seen on Fondamenta Nuovo and near the Accademia Bridge.
