Owner

The Palazzo Molina was home to the famous Italian poet Petrarch. Petrarch greatly admired Venice and his wish was to leave his prized library collection to the Republic of Venice under the condition that it would not be sold or divided. The Republic officials arranged for Petrarch to do this, and in return, they would provide free expensive housing to him that was to be paid by the city. The contract was arranged, and Petrarch was awarded The Palazzo Molina as a place to live, as well as a place to house his extensive library collection of ancient books and his own manuscripts. The Palazzo Molina became the primary residence of Petrarch, along with Petrarch's daughter, Francesca and his son-in-law, Francescuolo da Brossano.
After Petrarch left the Palazzo Molina, the collection that he had left to the Republic was not cared for and much of it crumbled and was lost.
