Venipedia is a nonprofit wiki-based encyclopedia dedicated to the City of Venice. The Venipedia website serves as a primary resource for collected data and detailed information available to the English-speaking world.

History

Venipedia was created in 2007 by Dr. Fabio Carrera, a Venetian native and the primary Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Venice project center advisor. Since the founding of the site, WPI students contribute every year with newly collected data pertaining to current projects.

Purpose

The purpose of the site is to provide a primary resource about Venice to the English-speaking community. Both the English and Italian Wikipedia sites have pages about Venice, but the English version contains broad information and the valuable information from the Italian version is not feasibly accessible by English-speakers. Venipedia attempts to fill the gap between these two resources by distributing pertinent Venetian data in English.
