Description
One building with 3 mini-apartments on different floors. Each apartment has 2 single beds, 1 bathroom, a living room with a kitchen, a washing machine, and a TV.
Bedrooms
Each bedroom bedroom has two twin beds. Sheets are not provided, but there are multiple blankets in each apartment. There are two closets with drawers for storage. Additionally, there is one desk in each bedroom.
Kitchen
Each floor in Ca' Corte has its own small kitchen. Each kitchen has a stove, but only the second and fourth floors have ovens. The third floor has a microwave (that is currently not working). All the supplies for cooking and eating (plates, bowls, pans, and pots) are already located in the apartments. The kitchen has a mini fridge as well as a table and four chairs. The kitchen also has a pull-out couch and a TV (which only gets Italian channels).
Bathroom
The bathrooms on each floor have a toilet, a bidet, a small shower, a sink, and a washing machine. The showers in Ca' Corte are much smaller than the average shower/tub in the United States. The toilets in Venice clog very easily so watch what is put down the toilet. There is storage space in the bathroom for any toiletries.
Directions
Take Boat Line 41 or 42 to the Fondamente Nuove boat stop. Take the Fondamente Nuove street away from the boat stop (heading left), and cross the Panada bridge (Ponte Panada). After 40 meters, turn right at the first street (Ramo Calle Larga). At the end of the street, turn left and immediately turn right onto Calle del Squero. Go straight for 100 meters and then turn right into the Corte Cortese. Look for the doorway with #6248 on it (on the right). The doorbells should be labeled.
Food and Groceries
Quick Snacks
There is a bakery right down the street from Ca' Corte. Take a right out of Corte Cortesse and walk down the street. Follow it to the right and 50 feet up the street is Panificio Mauro Semenzato (but it is commonly referred to by the students as the "Old Lady Bakery". There is no sign outside the bakery, but there are baked goods in the window.
Just after the bakery is a small cafe where you can purchase coffees and espressos as well as sandwiches and salads. Its a great place if you need a quick snack not too far from the apartment.
Grocery Stores
The most inexpensive grocery store located near Ca' Corte is Billa. It is located on Strada Nova, which is a fifteen minute walk from Ca' Corte. This is the grocery store that has the biggest selections.
A smaller grocery store Coop is located on the Fondamente Nuove. If you are coming from Ca' Corte, walk to the Fondamente and take a right once you have reached the water. Follow the fondamente down to Coop on the right side.
Tips
Here are some helpful hints for those living in Ca' Corte
Laundry
There is a washing machine and drying rack located on each floor of the building. These washing machines are much smaller than those in the United States. They do not have dryers in Venetian homes and most people hang their clothing outside to dry, but Ca' Corte has one drying rack on each floor.
Heat
The heating in Ca' Corte works very well so there is no need to worry about being cold while at this apartment.
