Wikimecum:Flying out of Treviso (RyanAir)

You may already know, but RyanAir is one of the cheapest ways to travel around Europe. Unfortunately, with lower costs comes lower quality. In all honesty, the flights using RyanAir aren't all that horrible, they leave late very often, but they seemingly always manage to land on time.

Using the Airline

It's easy enough to plan flights with RyanAir a week in advance, but to be safe give yourself 2 weeks. Using RyanAir's Site you can find plenty of flights for only 20 Euros. To warn you the ticket always winds up costing about an extra 5 or 10 Euros for passport fees, check-in fees, etc. Most often flying RyanAir you are going to use Treviso Airport, RyanAir doesn't fly out of Marco Polo and Treviso is the next closest airport. Each RyanAir flight has a bus from Piazzale Roma to Treviso. If the bus is late, the plane will not take off until the bus arrives (or so they claim). You can find a schedule online for each of the buses to Treviso. For four Euros you can catch an ATVO bus to Treviso Airport, but make sure you get there a little early to buy tickets. The ATVO ticket office is slightly difficult to find, somewhat of a hole in the wall, its located on the west side of Piazzale Roma. To get back its a simple purchase a ticket and jump on a bus back to Piazzale Roma.

At the Airport

Upon arriving at the airport check-in is just like you would expect at any other airport and you go to wait at your gate sitting on the floor basically.

Packing

Pack light. I personally didn't check any luggage cause I, quite frankly, didn't exactly trust the airline enough and I still don't. It's not difficult to pack all of your clothes in a backpack and carry it on with you. Just make sure you leave all pocket knives and all at home, normally I stick mine in my checked luggage, but being I had no checked luggage I had my Letherman confiscated. The only issue with using only a backpack is, just like any other trip, you want to go with a lightly filled bag so you can pack souvenirs for your trip.

Getting to your Destination

After flying RyanAir you almost always have another hour long trip to get to the city you planned on visiting. Every RyanAir Airport is far from the city. The only exception I know of is Dublin, Ireland where RyanAir flies into the main airport which is about 10 km outside of the city. Though its annoying to have to travel that far, in my experiences its very easy. Each airport seemingly has great transportation to and from the big cities.
