Wikimecum:How to/Use a payphone
Location

Payphones are located throughout Venice and the surrounding area. The phones have signs above them saying “Puntotel”.
Marco Polo Airport
In Marco Polo Airport, there is a payphone right across from the ticket booths for the boats. When you exit the baggage claim area, turn left, and the payphone is just a few paces away on the back wall near the exit doors.
Arco Apartments
Take a left out of the Arco Apartments. At the “T”, take a right. Payphones are about 50 meters straight ahead in the left hand corner before the bridge.
How to Make a Call
To make a call, you must have a credit or debit card, or euro coins. Payphones accept no larger than 1 euro coins. You CANNOT use 2 Euro coins. The easiest way to pay is with coins.

- Insert coins. Place the coin in the slot on the top right of the phone, and press the button in.
- Pick up the receiver.
- Type in the number you wish to dial. Make sure you include the area code. To call a country other than Italy, see below.
- Press the “OK” button below the number pad.
- Talk away!
- When finished, just hang up the receiver, and collect the change from the coin slot on the bottom right of the phone.
The cost for calls in Italy is 20 cents/minute. Make sure you pay attention to the time on the green screen. If you are running out of money, add more into the slot on the top right of the phone.
International Calls
To make international calls, simply use the relevant country code. To call the USA/Canada, use 001 before the 10 digit phone number (area code + local number). For example: 001 (555) 555-5555. For other country codes, see the signs above the booth.
