Island
An Island in the Venetian Lagoon

This article contains information about a typical Island in the Venetian Lagoon.

Definition

An Island is defined as: "Any piece of land, surrounded by water, which contains human artifacts, excluding the casone."

Types

An island in the Venetian Lagoon can be categorized as one of three types, based on location and utility:

  • Inner City Islands - These Islands make up the City of Venice itself
  • Major Lagoon Islands - While not a part of the City of Venice, these islands are inhabited and used by many Venetians
  • Minor Lagoon Islands - These are smaller islands which are not part of the City of Venice. They may have been used in the past, but today are largely abandoned or unused.
