Introduction English

A document dated April 1069 appointing the brook Hermacore de Sancti Luprio and attests to the ancient presence of the river and the nearby parish church dedicated to Saints Ermagora and Fortunato, whose cult spread to Venice after the discovery of the relics of Grado two martyrs .�Renewed by Giorgio Massari in the eighteenth century, the church inside Last Supper by Tintoretto, built in 1547.�A massive fire in the winter of 1789 devastated the district of San Marcuola.�The event is documented by the painting by Francesco Guardi (The fire S.Marcuola, 1789, detail below) who was an eyewitness.
