Introduction English

The building known as the Ca 'di Dio was the main facade overlooking the San Marco basin and one hand on the river, which it takes its name, but in ancient times was known as' Rio San Martin', overtaken by the homonymous bridge immortalized by William Turner (The Bridge Ca 'di Dio, 1840, reproduced here below).�The pilgrims' hospice was founded in 1272 by Friar Laurence, thanks to the donation of some of the houses he has received from furrier May Trevisan.�Besides the beautiful fa�ade overlooking the canal hospice, hospice house today, marked by a long series of distinctive fireplaces, are seen, proceeding towards the interior, two sumptuous residences Venice: Ca 'Erizzo and Ca' Grandiben, l ' a (foreground in photo) plant Renaissance, the other of the Gothic period.�In this palace was the birthplace of the poet Francesco Negri, while the first lived there the Doge Francesco Erizzo, buried in the nearby church of San Martino.

L'edificio detto la Ca' di Dio ha il prospetto principale che guarda il bacino di San Marco ed un lato sul rio che da esso prende il nome, ma che in antico era detto 'rio di San Martin', scavalcato dall'omonimo ponte immortalato da William Turner (The Ponte Ca' di Dio, 1840 ca, qui riprodotto in basso). L'ospizio dei pellegrini venne fondato nel 1272 da frate Lorenzo, grazie alla donazione di alcune case fattagli dal pellicciaio Maggio Trevisan. Oltre alla bella facciata sul rio dell'ospizio, oggi casa di ricovero per anziani, scandita da una fitta serie di caratteristici camini, si ammirano, procedendo verso l'interno, due sontuose dimore veneziane: Ca' Erizzo e Ca' Grandiben, l'una (in primo piano nella fotografia) d'impianto rinascimentale, l'altra d'epoca gotica. In quest'ultimo palazzo ebbe i natali il poeta Francesco Negri, mentre nel primo vi abit� il doge Francesco Erizzo, sepolto nella vicina chiesa di San Martino.
